KENNER, La. — Police say a 17-year-old man is in custody after a shooting an standoff with a SWAT team in Kenner Sunday morning.
According to the Kenner Police Department, John Green surrendered to police accompanied by his mother shortly after midnight. Police say Green's mother turned over a handgun believed to be used in a shooting around 9 a.m. in the 800 block of Champaigne Drive.
Investigators say a victim said he was having a conversation when Green interrupted, pulled a handgun and shot him in the arm without provocation. The victim was able to drive himself to Ochsner Hospital and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The Kenner Police SWAT team arrived at the home and tried to make contact with Green. Officers shot tear gas into the building before making entry and searching the home. Officers were not able to find Green Sunday.
Police said a search warrant was executed at the same house last summer when Green was named as a suspect in an NOPD homicide investigation. He was not charged in that investigation.
Green was booked into the Kenner Jail Monday charges of aggravated battery.
Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone who has any information about these incidents to call the Kenner Police at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
