Kenner PD arrest pair of 12-year-olds for setting apartment fire

The Kenner Fire Department responded to the fire in the 600 block of Vouray Drive.

KENNER, La. — The Kenner Police Department says two 12-year-old males were arrested for setting an apartment fire.

Officers responded to the fire in the 600 block of Vouray Drive around 6 p.m.

According to police, security video footage shows two juvenile suspects were said to be playing with a lighter in an attempt to set paper on fire.

When that failed, police claim the two boys lit a nearby tree on fire and that is what spread onto the building.

In total, three families were displaced by the fire, including seven adults and three children.

There was heavy damage to three apartments due to fire, smoke and water.

No injuries were reported.

The two juveniles face charges of aggravated arson.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross is assisting the families who have been displaced.
