JACKSON COUNTY, Mississippi – A judge is refusing to drop charges Monday against a New Orleans man accused of stabbing a transgender woman to death.
Dwanya Hickerson, 20, is charged with capital murder in the death of 25-year-old Dee Whigham. Hickerson is in the Navy and was arrested in late July.
Police said surveillance video shows Hickerson leaving a hotel room just after the murder.
An autopsy found Whigham was stabbed more than a hundred times and her throat was cut three times.
