The man accused of killing two people and injuring several others by driving drunk into a pack of cyclists in early March was denied a request to have his bond reduced Thursday.
Tashonty Toney faces two counts of vehicular homicide and 11 counts of vehicular negligent injuring and hit and run. He has been in jail since shortly after the crash on $510,000 bond.
His attorney was in court Thursday arguing that bond should be reduced because he said Toney’s family feels he is not a flight risk or danger to the community. They suggested he be allowed to wear an ankle bracelet.
Prosecutors said that Toney did commit a “crime of violence” and argued that he should be considered a flight risk because he fled the scene after striking several people.
The judge denied the bond saying that the defense’s argument was insufficient.
