JPSO deputy shoots, kills man after struggle at Terrytown convenience store

The shooting occurred at a Brothers Food Mart near the corner of Behrman Highway and Carol Sue Avenue.

NEW ORLEANS — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) is investigating a fatal shooting involving a deputy in Terrytown Saturday morning.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says two deputies responded to a call at a Brothers Food Mart near the corner of Behrman Highway and Carol Sue Avenue just after 4 a.m.. A man with two flat tires asked for deputies for assistance, claiming someone was trying to kill him.

The man then ran back and forth into the store causing a number of disturbances. When deputies responded, he became combative and ran to a different area in the store.

According to Lopinto, the man had a gun, which he pointed at the deputies multiple times over the course of the incident. The man then exited the bathroom and fired a shot, which prompted deputies to return fire, hitting and killing the man.

Lopinto says the JPSO homicide division is investigating the incident.
