BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge lobbyist and longtime lawyer, Jimmy Burland, was charged with possession of child pornography on Friday in a report by the U.S. Attorney's Office, according to Nola.com.
Burland "knowling possessed pornographic images of children younger than 12" between November 2022 and April 2023. This is according to the bill of information, our partners reported.
A bill of information usually means that a defendant has agreed to plead guilty and is cooperating with the government.
According to Nola.com, this also comes after Burland's office was raided by federal authorities in April.
He was being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Office of the Attorney General.
Don Cazayoux, Burland's attorney, said "We respect the process, and we will work through it as best as possible."
