GRETNA, La. — A former jail clerk for the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna was arrested on Thursday after allegedly stealing over $100,000 from bond money paid in cash, according to Nola.com.
Anetra Parker, 49, was booked with felony theft "valued over $25,000, according to arrest records", our partners reported.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said Parker was an employee at the facility for 19 years. Her job was to prepare the cash deposits of money paid to cover inmates' bail.
According to Nola.com, Parker is suspected of "skimming cash from the bonds and pocketing the money" for "a series of years."
Her arrest comes after a recent audit of the bonds, Capt. Jason Rivarde said.
Parker was arrested at the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Office in Metairie. Her bail was set at $25,000.
