Driver dies after crashing into dump truck in unincorporated Westwego, JPSO says

Deputies said the man was extricated from the car by members of the 9 Mile Point Volunteer Fire Department.

WESTWEGO, La. — A man is dead after he crashed into the back of a dump truck in unincorporated Westwego on Sunday morning , according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

JPSO said the crash happened near US90B and W. 9 Mile Point Road around 4 a.m.

Deputies said the man was driving a sedan and hit the back of the dump truck as "they were traveling southbound on 9 Mile Point Rd," the release said.

Deputies said the man was extricated from the car by members of the 9 Mile Point Volunteer Fire Department.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

JPSO said the driver of the dump truck was not seriously injured and impairment was not suspected.

The name of the victim has not been released. No further information is available at this time.
