MARRERO, La. — A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a truck in Marrero on Thursday, according to the Louisiana State Police.

The accident happened on LA 45 (Barataria Blvd.) near Eighty Arpent Road around 5:30 p.m. The identity of the bicyclist is being withheld until the family is notified.

State troopers said the bicyclist was riding on Barataria Blvd headed south. At the same time, a 2015 Ford F-250 was headed south. The driver of the truck was identified as 34-year-old Mark Allen Sicuro of Marrero.

They said Sicuro failed to yield and as he passed up the bicyclist, his tires hit the person and knocked them off of the bike.

The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene.

Troopers said Sicuro and his passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and were not injured.

Sicuro was then arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correction Center. He faces charges of negligent homicide, improperly passing pedestrians on bicycles, illegally tinted windshield, and other traffic offenses.
