Inmate back in custody after escaping in Tangipahoa Parish, sheriff says

Sheriff Daniel Edwards says at 4:03 a.m. on Monday, an inmate escaped custody. He is now back in custody.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be aware of an escaped inmate.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards says at 4:03 a.m. on Monday, an inmate identified as Channing Garrett, 39, escaped custody.

Detectives say Garrett left the jail wearing all white clothes with black shoes.

The sheriff says Garrett was incarcerated on a judge’s hold relating to a violation of a protective order. He also served time for various white-collar crimes including forgery and injuring public records according to the sheriff’s office.

Anyone with information regarding Garrett’s whereabouts is encouraged to call 911 immediately. Citizens are further encouraged to be on the lookout for anyone matching his description.
