LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — Louisiana State Fire Marshal deputies are investigating a devastating house fire in Houma that killed five people.

The victims include three adults, a teenager and a toddler, said State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan J Adams.

The surviving victim is a teenager.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office and the Bayou Blue Vol. Fire Department in the investigation.

The fire department said it received the call about the house fire around 3:45 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Louise Lane.

Louisiana State Fire Marshal Bryan Adams says firefighters were quick on the scene and after getting the fire under control five victims were later found and removed.

In addition to the 5 victims killed, a sixth person was able to escape the fire and is being treated in stable condition at the hospital the Fire Marshal said.

"We want to offer our condolences and our heartfelt sorrow to the families, and friends, and to the community. This is a very heart-wrenching tragedy, a terrible way to start a Saturday morning," said Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre.

Few details are available into what caused the fire or the cause of death as the investigation is active and ongoing.
