HARVEY, La. — A jammed gun may have saved three people's lives on Sunday and now a man has been booked for trying to kill them, according to The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
An 80-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife were apparently leaving a Harvey restaurant with their son-in-law Sunday afternoon, when JPSO officials said a man approached each of them pointing a gun.
According to NOLA.com, that gun jammed.
"He pointed it at each person and pulled the trigger, but it malfunctioned," JPSO Sgt. Brandon Veal said. "This could have been three murders.
The man apparently drove away from the attempted shooting, but not before pistol-whipping another man outside the restaurant.
"He didn't say a word the entire time," Sgt. Veal said.
On Tuesday, deputies pulled over and arrested Ronald Barrios, 42, and booked him on three counts of attempted murder in connection with the alleged incident in Harvey. JPSO said that Barrios is from Texas but had once lived in Jefferson Parish.
Investigators have not revealed how they determined that Barrios was the gunman, or what led investigators to pull him over.
Barrios has been held at the Gretna jail with a $760,000 bond.
