AMITE CITY, La. — A Hammond woman is dead after being struck by a car while walking on Interstate 55 Sunday morning, according to Louisiana State Police. The crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Cierra Porche.

Troopers said she was walking into the left lane of the interstate when a 2022 GMC 2500 hit her.

Before Porche was struck by the vehicle, she was involved in a crash on the interstate near LA Hwy 16 around 6:45 a.m.

Porche was driving a 2007 Saturn Vue when she crossed into the right lane and struck the rear side of a 2022 Ford Edge. Both cars came to a stop following the accident.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene.

State troopers said Porche then got out of her car and walked from the side of the roadway to the median. As she left the median and walked into the left lane of the interstate, the GMC hit her.

Porche suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

State police said impairment was not suspected of the GMC driver who provided a breath sample of .000g% and a routine toxicology sample was obtained from Porche for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
