Hammond shooting: 24-year-old woman fatally shot in parked car

The City of Hammond said 24-year-old Tori Banks died from injuries at North Oaks Medical Center.

HAMMOND, La. — Authorities say a Hammond woman is dead and a man is in custody following a shooting inside a car on Southwest Railroad Avenue on Sunday evening.

The City of Hammond said 24-year-old Tori Banks died from injuries at North Oaks Medical Center.

The city said detectives learned that Banks was inside her car with 19-year-old Johnathan Williams and another man when Williams allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired the weapon, striking Banks. Williams reportedly ran away while the other man began driving Banks to a hospital. Around 7:11 p.m., the man flagged down a Hammond police officer near Old Covington Highway and told the officer that Banks had been shot.

Banks was taken to the hospital by ambulance where she later died.

The statement from the city said Williams was identified as the shooter and was found by police officers at his home near the shooting location. Williams was arrested around 11:30 p.m. and was booked into the Hammond City Jail on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm.
