HAMMOND, La. — The Hammond Fire Department is searching for two suspects after firefighters noticed smoke coming from a building while en route to put out another fire. Firefighters said they went to the building at 1406 Corbin Road on Apr. 10.
Crews were able to put out the fire but " realized that the fire had multiple non-communicating points of origin."
Surveillance footage shows two suspects walking into a parking lot. One walked north on Mooney Avenue and the other on Corbin Road. "Both suspects were wearing dark clothing and were seen leaving the area shortly before smoke was seen coming from the building."
Crews were alerted to another fire two days later to a mobile home at Corbin Road, across the street from the first fire.
HFD said the timing and proximity of the fire were considered suspicious.
Anyone knowing the identity of the suspects or with information is asked to contact the Hammond Fire Prevention Bureau (985-277-5857 or fpb@hammond.org), or the Hammond Fire Department's Facebook page, or by contacting Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa’s anonymous tip line at 1-800-554-5245.
