Burglary suspect flees after encounter with homeowner in Hammond, police say

The suspect is described as a Black male, who was seen walking a white and brown dog.

HAMMOND, La. — The Hammond Police Department is searching for a man accused of robbing a home on Saturday night.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. when officers were called to a home that reported a burglary in the 1500 block area of Pecan Street. 

Officers said the "suspect entered the home and was able to steal a few items before the owner surprised him", a release said. After that, the man ran down the street.

The suspect is described as a Black male, who was seen walking a white and brown dog.

Anyone knowing the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Hammond Police Department at 985-277-5701.
