Man dies after car hits pole, falls in bayou in Terrebonne Parish state police say

GIBSON, La. — A man is dead after his car struck a utility pole and fell into a bayou in Terrebonne Parish Thursday night, according to the Louisiana State Police.

The crash claimed the life of 63-year-old Andrew Aker of Gibson. State police said the accident happened around 7 p.m. on North Bayou Black Drive near Canrience Pumping Road.

They said Aker was driving a 2025 Nissan Frontier headed west when his car "crossed the centerline, exited the roadway", a release said. Aker hit a utility pole and his car landed in a bayou where it was fully submerged.

Troopers said Aker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene.
