Foul odor leads NOPD to decomposed body, homicide investigation

NEW ORLEANS — Complaints of a foul odor led to the discovery of a decomposed body and a homicide investigation.

Sunday evening NOPD officers responded to a call from neighbors about an unfamiliar odor in the air in the 3200 block of Iberville Street.       

Officers found the decomposed body of a man.  The incident was classified as an unclassified death until an investigation by the Coroner’s Office determined the man died from at least one gunshot wound.

The NOPD is now investigating the case as a homicide.

Currently, investigators are gathering evidence and information to identify who may be involved as well as a motive.
