Formal charges filed on ex-model, serial sex offender Dean Kelly for sex crimes

In December, Dean Kelly was arrested on attempted third-degree rape and sexual battery from an incident in October.

NEW ORLEANS — The Orleans Parish District Attorney's office announced on Friday that its Special Victims Unit has formally filed charges against former model and actor Dean Kelly, who is accused of sexual battery and attempted simple rape.

In December, the then 52-year-old Kelly was arrested on attempted third-degree rape and sexual battery incident from October.

The DA's office said Kelly also faces charges for failing to fulfill registration obligations, including not registering his vehicle and not providing notification of his sex offender status on social networking sites.

The serial offender, who previously served time in prison for committing sex crimes, pleaded guilty in 2013 on two counts of sexual battery of a 14-year-old and took a plea deal in 2005 after being accused of raping two teen girls.

Since his latest arrest, Kelly has remained out on bail.

The OPDA Special Victims Unit is asking people to report any contact with Kelly via dating and social networking apps.

"The public should be aware that Kelly is suspected of utilizing social media and dating sites under various assumed aliases to conceal his true identity. These accounts bearing aliases often contain actual photos of Kelly, himself," the DA's office warns.

The DA's office also says Kelly's violent past and ongoing conduct represent a clear and present danger to the members of this community.

Back in the 90s, Kelly appeared in Aerosmith's video for 'Crazy' with Alicia Silverstone.
