NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department arrested a man Tuesday for negligent homicide after a three-year-old died from a gunshot wound.

Police responded to a call of a person shot in the 3200 block of Rue Parc Fontaine around 3 p.m. Monday. They found a 3-year-old toddler female with a gunshot wound when they arrived. The toddler died at the scene.

Our partners at The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reported that Ordon is the father of a three-year-old Promyse Ordon.

Ordon was questioned at the scene. NOPD said, "detectives determined Ordon to be responsible for the incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest." He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of negligent homicide and for being a convicted felon in illegal possession of a firearm.

Neighbors at the scene said the child apparently found the father's gun and shot herself, according to NOLA.com.
