Fatal hit and run near Earhart Boulevard leaves one dead, police say

Officers said the cyclist was walking his bike when a car struck him.

NEW ORLEANS — A 26-year-old man was hit by a car on Saturday night while walking his bike across the Claiborne Avenue overpass near Earhart Boulevard.

NOPD said they responded to a call around 7:09 p.m. to find the cyclist dead on the scene. Officers said the cyclist was walking his bike when a car struck him.

Officers said the driver that struck the cyclist fled the scene.

NOPD is investigating the incident and collected blood and alcohol samples for testing. The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and will release the identity of the victim.
