Impaired driver arrested after fatal crash in Plaquemines Parish

Police say the crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Michael Carr of Baytown, TX.

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — A man has been arrested after a crash that killed a man in Plaquemines Parish Sunday morning, according to Louisana State Police.

Police say the crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Michael Carr of Baytown, TX.

Just before five a.m. Carr was driving south on LA 23 and 48-year-old Peter Thomason of Devine, TX, was behind him. Thomason switched to the left lane and then tried to go back to the right, where he hit the back end of Carr's vehicle.

It caused Carr to travel off the road and hit a concrete utility pole. He died at the scene. Investigators say he was wearing a seatbelt.  

Thomason was breathalyzed at the scene and had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was booked into the Plaquemines Parish jail on the following charges: Vehicular homicide, Vehicular negligent injuring, and Reckless operation.
