NEW ORLEANS — A St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office deputy was injured after a police chase at the intersection of Hillwood Street and Read Boulevard in New Orleans on Tuesday.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, three suspects have been detained and the deputy is being treated by Emergency Medical Services.

Detectives said they saw a "stolen dark blue Chevrolet pickup [truck] that was wanted in connection with an aggravated burglary and an armed robbery" around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. They said the incident happened at the 1900 block of Goodwill Street in Poydras.

The New Orleans Police Department was then called to try to stop the stolen truck. Officers attempted to do a traffic stop near Read Boulevard but the driver refused to stop and led authorities on a chase through the neighborhood.

The driver, identified as Shawndell Taylor, 25 " rammed the stolen Chevrolet pickup head-on into an unmarked SBSO unit, injuring a detective, and struck an empty slab at which time the vehicle became disabled," a release said.

Two others were arrested with Taylor including, Perrion Bailey, 17, and Danny Lumar, 21. All three were taken into custody by NOPD and booked on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and aggravated burglary out of St. Bernard. Other charges are pending.

The detective is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The name of the deputy is being withheld at this time.
