KENNER, La. — A Texas man was arrested after leading officers on a vehicle chase in Kenner, following an alleged car theft, according to the Kenner Police Department. The pursuit ended when the man crashed into a truck on I-10 eastbound, and illegal narcotics were found in his vehicle, police said.

According to police, 18-year-old Jerry Hickman of Texas was arrested. The incident happened on Tuesday around 2:38 p.m. when an officer saw him speeding through a red light in the 4300 block of Williams Blvd.

Officers tried to stop Hickman by using their emergency lights and sirens but he refused. Hickman then led officers on a vehicle pursuit on I-10 eastbound at Power Blvd, but heavy congestion caused Hickman to crash into the back of a truck.

Investigation revealed that Hickman was an employee hired to transport vehicles by trailer and stopped in Baton Rouge where he unloaded a blue Dodge Charger off the trailer, a release said.

"Illegal narcotics such as marijuana and PCP were also found in the vehicle with Hickman," Kenner Police said.

No injuries were reported from the accident and there was no damage to the truck.

Hickman was booked with multiple traffic offenses, and drug charges, and is under investigation for auto theft.

This is a developing story. Kenner Police Department said more information will be provided as the case develops.
