One dead after head-on crash in Covington, state police say

COVINGTON, La. — One man is dead after a head-on crash in Covington Friday morning, according to the Louisiana State Police Troop L.

The crash claimed the life of Jonathan Brister, 25, of Covington. State police said the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. on LA Hwy 21 near Hwy 1083.

Troopers said Brister was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze headed northbound. At the same time a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south when Brister " traveled across the centerline and struck the Chevrolet Silverado head-on," the release said.

Brister was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

State police said the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was wearing a seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries. They were also taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and toxicology samples were taken from both drivers.
