SLIDELL, La. — The Slidell Police Department says a city employee was hit by a vehicle during a police chase Tuesday morning.
The chase happened around 10:30 a.m. when a Slidell Police officer was driving on Fremaux Avenue when a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Matao Palmer of Slidell passed him going over 70 m.p.h.
Once the Palmer passed, the officer cut on his emergency lights and sirens, and the chase began.
According to Slidell PD, Palmer went the opposing way on Second Street through "Umbrella Alley" and hit a City of Slidell employee who was working nearby.
The city employee was struck by the vehicle's side mirror. He had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Palmer and an unidentified passenger were arrested when the chase ended near Cousin Street.
Palmer was charged with the following:
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce
- Aggravated flight from an officer
- Negligent injuring
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of hydrocodone
