NEW ORLEANS — Three people were shot on a very busy French Quarter corner while parade-goers celebrated during the height of Mardi Gras.
The New Orleans Police Department reports that the shooting happened at about 12:23 a.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Canal Street and Royal Street. Thousands of Mardi Gras revelers were still in the French Quarter continuing the party there long after the parades had ended.
According to our partners at The Times-Picayune, the shooting stems from a fight among a group of women when a man pulled out a gun and started shooting, striking two men and a woman.
Police did not give any further detail into who the people were shot or what led to the fight. One of the three shooting victims was taken to the hospital by EMS.
Police did not say what condition the victims were in at this time. The NOPD is still investigating and searching for who may be responsible.
The investigation is ongoing.
