Man killed, 16-year-old suspect arrested in French Quarter shooting

Capt. Ganthier commended police officers for making a quick arrest and added that even more officers will be in the French Quarter this weekend.

NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot and killed at the corner of Bourbon Street and Toulouse Wednesday afternoon, days before a busy Sugar Bowl weekend in New Orleans.

According to NOPD Capt. Hans Ganthier, the unidentified victim was shot near the corner of Toulouse and Bourbon Street just before 2 p.m. Ganthier said officers found the victim in a nearby daiquiri shop with multiple gunshot wounds.

Shortly after, a 16-year-old suspect was arrested at the corner of N. Rampart and St. Louis Street.

Ganthier commended police officers for making a quick arrest and added that even more officers will be in the French Quarter this weekend.

"As of (December) 30th we’ll have an extra 250 officer down here, as well as Louisiana State Police," he said. "So, we’ll be having a very good deployment for that. I don’t think anyone needs to be worried about that."

Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
