St. Gabriel police find man dead inside trunk of burned car

Police identified the man as 28-year-old Jarrous Mitchell of Prairieville.

ST GABRIEL, La. — A man was found dead in the trunk of a burned car, after it caught on fire Thursday night, according to the St. Gabriel Police Department.

Police identified the man as 28-year-old Jarrous Mitchell of Prairieville.

Mitchell's body was discovered when a car was reported on fire at 4445 Point Clair Road. While firefighters were on the scene putting out the fire, they found his body inside the trunk.

No suspect had been identified as of Friday, police said.

The St. Gabriel Police Department is investigating the incident, with the help of the State Fire Marshal Office, Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and members of the 18th Judicial District DA's Office investigators.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

St. Gabriel Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this matter to contact the Department Detectives Division.
