Body cam apparently shows Gulfport officer shooting teen

Gulfport police have released the body cam and dash cam video of the day Jaheim McMillian was shot and killed outside this Family Dollar.

GULFPORT, Miss — New video has been released of an Gulfport officer apparently shooting and killing teenager.

Gulfport police have released the body cam and dash cam video of the day Jaheim McMillian was shot and killed outside Family Dollar. The video came nearly five months after the shooting.

In the video from October, you see Gulfport police officer Kenneth Nassar pull up to the Family Dollar. Nassar then yells and Jaheim starts to run, and finally shots were fired.

Later in the video, Nassar says that he initially saw the teen carrying a gun but after the shooting, the officer says he could not find the gun.

Eventually another officer in the video tells Nassar to turn his body cam off.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation released their findings in a 105-page document, which said Jaheim exited the rear passenger seat of the car holding a pistol in his right hand, then ran to the front of the Family Dollar.

The bureau also released an edited version of the video. In the edited video, it shows the moments investigators say it appears Jaheim to be holding a gun.

Jaheim’s mother Katrina Mateen and the Gulfport community, are calling for transparency.

Nick Bezzel with the Elmer Geronimo Pratt Pistol & Rifle Gun Club said more needs to be done to build trust between the police and the community.

“Its hard to build trust when you have a video released four or five months later and anything could’ve happened to that video,” Bezzel said. “For the sake of transparency I think in this country overall, we have to do a better, our law enforcement have to do a better job when it comes to officer involved shootings.”

A grand jury cleared all the officers from the Gulfport Police Department involved in the incident.

The Gulfport community and Jaheim’s mother more questions than answers.
