NEW ORLEANS — According to the New Orleans Police Department, an armed carjacking went awry for the alleged perpetrator early Friday morning when police say the suspect was shot while committing the crime in the Plum Orchard area of New Orleans East.
The incident occurred in the 7300 block of Chef Menteur Highway at approximately 2 a.m.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Johnathan Edwards, was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Edwards, who will be arrested and booked upon release from the hospital.
Police said the attempted carjacking victim is not facing charges at this time.
