Man admits to shooting and killing pregnant girlfriend in Amite, sheriff says

AMITE CITY, La. — A man was arrested after he shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend in Amite on Friday, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

Demarcus Womack, 22, was booked on one count each of second-degree murder, second-degree murder (feticide), and obstruction of justice.

Deputies said Womack shot his 13 weeks pregnant girlfriend, Aieron Thomas, 19 in the chest. The incident happened around 7 a.m. when deputies were called to a home on Bankston Road in Amite.

When they arrived, they found Thomas unresponsive. Womack "admitted to the shooting as well as trying to hide evidence of the crime," a release said.

He was then arrested.
