Hammond woman lies about being inmates' attorney at Tangipahoa Parish Jail, sheriff says

Connie Jones, 44, was booked into the jail on Friday, Jul. 19 after she "signed in as an attorney to visit" two inmates who were being re-booked.

AMITE, La. — A Hammond woman was arrested after she tried to impersonate an attorney in hopes of visiting inmates at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, according to the sheriff's office.

Connie Jones, 44, was booked into the jail on Friday, Jul. 19 after she "signed in as an attorney to visit" two inmates who were being re-booked.

TPSO Narcotics detectives said they knew Jones was "in fact, not an attorney nor a paralegal in Louisiana or anywhere else in the U.S" from their investigation into the inmates.

After confirming Jones was not their attorney, she was arrested. Detectives were also told that she had come to the jail with other people who were waiting in the parking lot.

Authorities arrested one of the individuals in the car for "having synthetic marijuana in their possession."

Jones was booked on several felony charges including one count each of False Presentation, Practicing Law Without a License, and Criminal Trespassing.
