NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department said an 8-year-old child was shot in Hollygrove on Wednesday.
The shooting happened in the 8800 block of Nelson Street around noon.
NOPD initially reported that the child was 6 years old. Officers later reported that the child was an 8-year-old boy.
According to NOPD, the child had sustained a gunshot wound in the shooting and is currently in stable condition.
According to NOPD, the child was taken to the hospital by private conveyance.
Officers said the investigation is ongoing and will be led by NOPD Special Victims Section Child Abuse Unit.
No other information is available at this time.
Police are also investigating a shooting that left a 16-year-old girl injured Wednesday morning. NOPD says it happened around 7:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of A.P. Tureaud Avenue. She was taken to the hospital by EMS.
