MARRERO, La. — An argument in a Marerro home ended with shots fired, a little girl dead, a little boy hospitalized and two other men shot – one of them fatally.
The incident occurred in the Normandy Park subdivision in Marrero around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The shootings represent violence that has seen 8 people shot and 5 people killed in the area over the past two weeks.
Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said Thursday’s argument didn’t stem over drugs or a robbery.
“It was not a drug deal. It didn’t appear it was a home invasion. This was a person who was actually at the house and got into some type of argument over something and just decided to start shooting people,” he said.
Malik McGinnis, 22, turned himself in to authorities Thursday. He was set to be booked with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. 23-year-old Everette Campbell was arrested overnight.
The girl who was killed used to ride her bike around the neighborhood, according to Kendall McClintock, who lived on the block.
“They ride around here on their bikes and just enjoying life, now over some adults arguing over probably something petty and now they suffer the consequences.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the JPSO Homicide Section at 504-364-5300. Residents can also report information anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
