NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident that left two adult males dead Sunday morning.
The accident happened at approximately 5:04 a.m., at Powhatan and Velie Streets in the Desire neighborhood the NOPD reports.
According to investigators, the driver of a black Nissan Sentra was traveling westbound on the I-10 when for reasons unknown lost control of his vehicle, veered off the Interstate, and struck a tree.
Emergency Medical Personnel pronounced the driver and passenger of the vehicle dead on the scene.
The accident remains under investigation. Blood and alcohol tests are pending. The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and will release the identity of the victim.
