HOUMA A 23-year-old father of three was fatally shot in his home in Senator Circle Wednesday night.
Officers were called to 237 Senator Circle shortly before 9:30 p.m. after his girlfriend found 23-year-old O'Brien Young lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Young, whose name was confirmed by police and family members, lived with his girlfriend and two children at the home. He has a third child from another relationship, relatives said.
Sgt. Dana Coleman of Houma Police said the investigation is in its 'infant stages' and there are no suspects or motives at this time.
It is unclear if Young was pronounced dead at the scene or at a hospital, but authorities who responded to the call performed CPR.
At the scene, family members, friends and neighbors stood outside in the rain, consoling each other as police walked in and out of the house.
An uncle, Frederick Young, said his nephew 'took care of his kids. That was his main purpose in life.'
The 23-year-old, who worked odd jobs, talked about going to technical school to become a diesel mechanic, Frederick Young said.
Linda Smith, a cousin of O'Brien Young's girlfriend, Mindy Gauno, said 'he was very gentle, humble and respectful.'
