NEW ORLEANS — Police arrested two Dillard University students on rape charges Friday, NOPD officials said.
The arrests come days after students gathered to raise awareness about alleged sexual assault at the school, which university officials reported to police.
Following NOPD investigation, two current students were arrested and charged with second-degree rape in connection to a sexual assault police said happened on the school's campus on April 20.
Police officials said they are not releasing the names of the accused because they are known acquaintances of the victims.
In response to the arrests, university officials said the school will continue to teach students about consent.
"The University will continue to educate its students on consent, rape culture and tactical methods to protect themselves and their peers," officials said.
NOPD officials said one student's attorney asked that police delay the their arrest, but that request was denied.
