NEW ORLEANS — A deadly shootout with police on Canal Street that left five wounded and one person dead was just one of several violent incidents that happened across the New Orleans metro area over the weekend.
In total, seven people were killed in separate incidents since Saturday morning.

Edwin Gomez-Duarte, 18, of Harvey was booked on second-degree murder charges after he allegedly shot and killed 22-year-old Arnold Matute-Vasquez following a fight outside a bar on Airline Drive.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Daniel Street near the Enigma Airport Bar and Lounge. Officers responded to reports of a large group fighting and gunfire. When they arrived at the scene, they found Matute-Vasquez, on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. (Read more)
A man was found face down with gunshot wounds to his head and body under the I-10 overpass near Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was found just feet away from where another man was killed a week before. (Read more)
A man was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a pickup truck around 7:04 a.m. in the 600 block of Austerlitz Street.
New Orleans Police originally classified the incident was an "unclassified death" but was later reclassified as a homicide. (Read more)
A man was found shot to death inside a car on I-10 west over the Bonnet Carre Spillway following a hit-and-run crash around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Other people inside the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (Read more)
A 34-year-old man died after he was shot in the head around 1:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Freret Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Another person was shot in the leg. (Read more)
Five people were wounded and an armed robbery suspect is dead after an exchange of gunfire with police officers in downtown New Orleans Sunday night. (Read more)
Police say a 23-year-old man is dead after he was found shot int head around 7:42 p.m. on Almonaster Avenue. (Read more)
