NEW ORLEANS — Looking for some holiday fun for the family?
You can find it at the Morial Convention Center, where NOLA ChristmasFest is now underway.
Children raced through the entrance on Thursday morning as the doors opened around 11.
The convention center has been transformed into a 300,000-square-foot indoor winter wonderland.
There are attractions made with real ice, thrill rides and a host of holiday activities.
“We first came to this event last year and had a blast and we decided we had to make it another thing this year,” visitor Sherri Stivers said. “We had granny coming into town, so just made it a family affair.”
“I really like the slide and skating, the ice skating, so I’m going to try it this year,” visitor Lexi Island said.
Ice skating is certainly a fan favorite for visitors young and old whether you’re a skilled skater or just starting out.
This year, the rink has been redesigned.
It even features an occasional dusting of snow.
“Ice skating, that’s all they’re talking about,” visitor Derrick Melton said. “When are we going to get back to ice skating. My son is a little more adventurous than my daughter, but they all love to try and know how to ice skate.”
This is the tenth anniversary of the NOLA ChristmasFest.
“Make memories and capture them,” Convention Center Chief Commercial Officer Tim Hemphill said. “There’s so many surprises and delights moments here with characters walking all around and different amusement rides, inflatables, and ice slides.”
It’s also a good way to celebrate the reason for the season.
“Christmas means to think about others before yourself,” visitor Isiah Davis said.
And to be with the ones you love.
“We’re all color coordinated,” John Island said. “We tried our best, so dressed to impress. We’re here to have some fun.”
“This is going to become our Christmas tradition,” visitor Kyra Owens said. “As long as it’s here, we’ll be here.”
ChristmasFest runs through December 30.
