Local holiday events could be impacted by forecast

Officials for many of these events say they'll monitor weather conditions and will alert residents of any changes.

NEW ORLEANS — The cooler weather we've been experiencing is putting us in the holiday spirit. Events all around Southeast Louisiana are kicking off to make up for the lack of snow this Christmas.

But, the weekend's forecast will likely rain on some of our parades. Slidell's festive lineup was tweaked a bit to prepare for the rainy conditions.

Now, the Olde Towne Slidell golf cart parade will be on Sunday, December 3, at 5 p.m.

"We’ve done it the past 4 or 5 years. It’s something families love, there will be 75 to 100 golf carts covered in Christmas lights," Mayor Greg Cromer said. "It just brings out family from our community and gets them in the old town area."

Plus, Vince Vance will now take the stage the following weekend at Bayou Jam as the event has been moved to December 8 at 6 p.m.

Other events will still be as scheduled for now. Jefferson Parish's Christmas in the Park, sponsored by WWL Louisiana, will still kick off this Friday, but parish officials tell us they're keeping a close eye on the forecast. For now, though they'll still flip the switch at Lafreniere Park at 5 p.m.

The Christmas Parade in Houma has been moved to Sun., Dec. 3 at 5 p.m, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff.

The New Orleans Holiday Parade scheduled for Saturday, December 2 is still going on as planned. As well as City Park's Celebration in the Oaks.

Officials for many of these events say they'll monitor weather conditions and will alert residents of any changes.
