Christmas Eve rain doesn't stop last-minute shoppers across New Orleans

Despite the downpour, crowds flooded Lakeside Mall in Metairie to secure their last-minute Christmas gifts.

NEW ORLEANS — The rain started pouring around 5 a.m. Sunday. Around one to two inches doused the New Orleans metro, according to WWL Louisiana meteorologists.

Despite the downpour, crowds flooded Lakeside Mall in Metairie to secure their last-minute Christmas gifts.

“We are not letting the weather stop us. Cause you know the kids got to get their gifts. Santa’s in town early today," one man said.

“Out of the ordinary. I hate it. It’s ugly," one woman said.

“I was like, I should’ve worn my goulashes. Cause my little canvas Vans are not cutting it right now," another woman said.

But the shoppers pressed on braving the weather to bring joy to loved ones.

“Just trying to make sure we make everybody smile," the man said.

The Christmas spirit was stronger than the storm.

Just a reminder, many retail and grocery stores are closed on Christmas Day, including Lakeside Mall. It reopens on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
