The Old Coffee Pot closes in French Quarter after 125 years

The historic restaurant offered legendary New Orleans chef Leah Chase her first job as a waitress in the 1940s

NEW ORLEANS — A French Quarter restaurant that's been in business for more than 125 years officially closed its doors this week.

The Old Coffee Pot Restaurant, the historic breakfast and comfort food spot in the 700 block of St. Peter Street, is now permanently closed. 

The owners of the restaurant posted the news on Facebook, saying it's been an honor to serve New Orleans for more than 100 years.

The announcement received hundreds of comments, thanking the restaurant and recounting memories in the French Quarter that go back decades. 

The restaurant is also important in local history because it gave chef Leah Chase her first job as a waitress in the 1940's.

No reason was given for the closure.
