NEW ORLEANS — A Winn-Dixie in Metairie is closing and will become an ALDI, according to our partners at The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate.
NOLA.com says the German grocery store will replace the Winn-Dixie at 5901 Airline Drive in the coming weeks.
ALDI first announced last August that they would buy Winn-Dixie and other stores owned by Southeastern Grocers, Inc., including Harveys Supermarkets.
"As we work through this transition period, conversion plans are still being finalized and we will share more information as it becomes available," Meredith Hurley, Southeastern Grocers' senior director for communications & community, said in a statement to NOLA.com.
This will be Aldi's 16th store in the state.
ALDI will take over and add 800 new stores in the South. In March ALDI officials said about 50 stores would begin the conversion process during the latter half of 2024, with the majority of these stores reopening as ALDI in 2025.
The national expansion cost the company more than $9 billion, according to company-provided data.
