NEW ORLEANS — Morning Call and Bud's Broiler, two longtime institutions in the city, hope to open a side-by-side location on Canal Blvd. The spot is just about a mile or so away from locations that each of them vacated in the past year.
Bud's closed its iconic location on City Park Avenue close to Delgado Community College while Morning Call was outbid for its City Park beignet location.
Morning Call owner, Bob Hennessey, confirmed that he is working with Melvin Ziegler, the owner of Bud's Broiler, to open in a property at 5101 Canal Blvd., where a parking lot currently sits.
Morning Call would be open 24/7. Morning Call would be about 3,643 sq ft inside, Bud’s would be about 2,001 sq feet inside. The proposal also shows 2,311 sq ft of covered porch. There would additionally be eight apartments upstairs.
The lease has not been signed yet. A neighborhood meeting on the development is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cask, 5123 Canal Blvd.
Hennessey estimates the locations would open within a year.
Hennessey is opening a Morning Call in Hammond soon and also hopes to open a location in Metairie.
