Louisiana native Laine Hardy wins American Idol

NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana's idol is now the newest American Idol.

Laine Hardy from Livingston, La., was named the winner of the latest season of ABC's "American Idol" during the show's finale Sunday.

The 18-year-old took home the win earning praise for his southern charm and raspy vocals.

Hardy is the first ever Louisiana native to win the title of "American Idol." He is the 17th winner in the competition's history.

"I can't believe it," Hardy told host Ryan Seacrest. "I am just so thankful." 

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards shared his praise overnight for Hardy, writing "Me oh my oh, congratulations Laine Hardy! You've made us all #LouisianaProud back home and we can't wait to have big fun on the bayou!"
