GAINESVILLE, GA (WXIA) – Comedian Katt Williams bonded out of jail Thursday afternoon after a court appearance, where he was indicted on assault and drug possession charges tied to a February arrest involving threats made against his bodyguard.
He was relieved to be out of jail after spending the night in the Hall County Jail.
“It’s always a pleasure not to go to jail, but it’s always a pleasure to get out,” Williams told reporters Thursday afternoon. (Click to see what he had to say upon his release)
Williams’ attorney, Drew Finding, says he was granted a $500 bond before being released. The comedian had turned himself in on Wednesday after being charged with disorderly conduct for fighting with a 17-year-old boy in Gainesville last week.

The fight had occurred while Williams was participating in a soccer game with teens at a subsidized housing complex in Gainesville while doing community service in conjunction with a prior conviction. Video of the fight went viral, appearing on a number of websites.
When he was released, Williams spoke with reporters outside the courthouse.
“Some of us know that Hall County – they have more Confederate flags than Stone Mountain or Clayton County, maybe that’s the state flag, but whatever it is, God bless America, and God bless the bonding agent and the judge,” Williams said. “I’m going to do a better job of not communicating or participating with any other black people in Hall County, because clearly that’s the problem. They issued an order; I’m not allowed to be anywhere near the Gainesville Housing Authority, and I thought that was an odd thing to say to a millionaire – that you shouldn’t be in the brokest part of town. I’m not there to get anything, I’m there to help the people of that depressed demographic.”
Williams had been scheduled to perform a pair of shows this weekend in Louisiana. According to his tour publicist, those shows have been rescheduled until April 30 in Bossier City and May 6 in New Orleans.
