Iconic 'Friends' couch will be there for you all weekend long in New Orleans

With the iconic St. Louis Cathedral as a backdrop, you can pivot onto a replica of the orange sofa. Be warned, the replica is hard, unlike the soft sofa on the show.

NEW ORLEANS — We'll call this: "The one where 'Friends' comes to New Orleans."

Who doesn't love 'Friends'? It's one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. Sunday marks 25 years since the show premiered. Now, 30 replicas of the iconic orange couch are touring around the world. This weekend, you can sit on one of those replicas outside Jackson Square at Washington Artillery Park in New Orleans. Could fans be any more excited?

"I begged my dad to take me and my friend out of school so we could come to this," said 12-year-old Grace Ohlmeyer.

With the iconic St. Louis Cathedral as a backdrop, you can pivot onto a replica of the orange sofa. Be warned, the replica is hard, unlike the cushiony sofa on the show.

"I hope Gunther shows up with a coffee for me," said a fan visiting from New Jersey.

"I'm 'Friends' fan for life, since the beginning," said Andrea Diaz.

This is all to celebrate the sitcom's 25th anniversary. The first episode of 'Friends' premiered September 22, 1994.

"That's pretty crazy," Ohlmeyer said. "All of my friends watch it too like we all talk about it all the time."

This begs the question: Why after all these years does the show still have such a following?

"It still feels relevant," Amy Valdez said.

"It'll make you crack up. I've seen every episode quite a few times and I can still laugh about it," Diaz said.

If you're not a huge fan of the show, you're probably surprised to hear some fans took off of work or left school early to see this less comfortable replica of the original sofa.

"25 years later it's still popular it's still on TV, that couch is everything," Diaz said.

For fans, it's a quick, free photo opportunity to feel even more connected to a show that's still there for you.

The couch is free to visit at Washington Artillery Park, 768 Decatur Street. It will be available for visitors on Thursday until 7 p.m. and Friday - Sunday from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

This Sunday the Superdome will light up with 'Friends' colors; red, yellow, and blue. Seven other landmarks across the world will light up as well.
