NEW ORLEANS -- Not sure what to do with all those Mardi Gras beads? How about recycling them.

The Arc of Greater New Orleans offers several locations for recycling beads year-round as well as purchasing recycled beads. Arc is a non-profit organization serving people of all ages with intellectual disabilities in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines and St. Tammany parishes.

Arc director Margie Perez said the word to recycle is really catching on.

"More people are finding out about us, and they are like of course I should recycle my beads," Perez said. "So we are getting more people to find where to recycle and more people to buy their beads from us."

Here is a list of locations where the Arc collects Mardi Gras beads:

Permanent drop off locations:

  • Whole Foods on Magazine
  • Clearview Mall near Semolina Restaurant
  • Mardi Gras World near the Convention Center
  • Rouses on Airline and S. Labarre
  • The Green Project - 2831 Marais St, New Orleans, LA 70117

Seasonal drop off locations (only available after Mardi Gras):

  • Whole Foods on Veterans
  • Whole Foods on Broad
  • New Orleans Public Library branches
