Watch: New Orleans police officer helps girl get Zulu coconut

Walter Edmond noticed that Malaysia Edwards was crying because she could not catch any beads.

NEW ORLEANS — It's not every day you can get a police escort for some special Mardi Gras parade throws.

The New Orleans Advocate shared an adorable video of a New Orleans Police officer lifting a 7-year-old girl to a float during the Zulu parade. The report says officer Walter Edmond noticed that Malaysia Edwards was crying because she could not catch any beads. He then carried the girl to the side of a float where she was quickly showered with the krewe's specialty coconuts.

Zulu's custom-designed coconut throws are perennial favorites with fans who vie for the chance to get one.

The video was captured by Advocate photographer Chris Granger and got the attention of the department's social media accounts.

"Thank you for sharing this," the NOPD's official Twitter account posted. "Happy Mardi Gras, Everyone!"
